Giovanni da Verrazzano (US: VERR-ə-ZAH-noh, -⁠ət-SAH-, Italian: [dʒoˈvanni da (v)verratˈtsaːno], sometimes incorrectly spelled Verrazano; 1485–1528) was a Florentine explorer of North America, in the service of King Francis I of France.
