Actor T.O.P, born Choi Seung-hyun and best known as the lead rapper of the legendary K-pop boy group BigBang, is most famous for his distinctive deep bass voice and confident, mocking rap style that defined hits like "Lies," "Haru Haru," "Fantastic Baby," and "Bang Bang Bang," as well as his successful solo tracks "Turn It Up" (2010) and the critically acclaimed "Doom Dada" (2013), while also earning praise as an actor in films such as 71: Into the Fire (2010)—for which he won Best New Actor awards—and Tazza: The Hidden Card (2014), plus his recent high-profile role as the debt-ridden rapper Thanos in Squid Game season 2 (2024–2025), which introduced him to a new global audience. He has also ventured into philanthropy and art, being a great-nephew of pioneering abstract artist Kim Whanki. Something surprising about him is that before debuting with BigBang, he was an underground rapper known as Tempo and won a KBS Radio rap battle in 2003, but he had to lose 20 kg (about 44 lbs) in just 40 days through intense diet and exercise after initially being rejected from the group for being "too chubby," transforming dramatically to secure his spot and launch his iconic career.
