Basil II

Basílio II (em latim: Basilius; em grego medieval: Βασίλειος; 958 – 15 de dezembro de 1025), conhecido como Bulgaróctono ou Mata-búlgaros (em grego medieval: Βασίλειος Βουλγαροκτόνος; romaniz.: Basíleios Bulgaroktónos), foi imperador bizantino por quase 50 anos, de 10 de janeiro de 976 até sua morte, tendo governado conjuntamente com outros imperadores desde 960. Foi nomeado cogovernante junto de seu irmão Constantino VIII antes de seu pai Romano II morrer em 963. O trono foi para dois generais, Nicéforo Focas e João Tzimisces, antes de tornar-se o único imperador. Seu influente tio-avô Basílio Lecapeno foi o governante de facto do Império Bizantino até 985.
