Rushdy Abaza was a legendary Egyptian actor most famously known as the charismatic "Don Juan of Egyptian Cinema" and one of the greatest stars of the Golden Age of Arab cinema, appearing in over 100 films from 1948 to 1980 where he excelled in diverse roles as romantic leads, action heroes, villains, and comedians in classics like Struggle on the Nile (1959), A Man in Our House (1961), Wife Number 13 (1962), Sunset and Sunrise (1970), and I Want a Solution (1975). Born to an Egyptian father from the prominent Abaza family and an Italian mother, he rose from a chance discovery while playing billiards to become a household name across the Arab world for his charm, versatility, and on-screen presence. Surprisingly, despite his dashing romantic image and five marriages (including to famous dancers Taheya Carioca and Samia Gamal, plus Lebanese singer Sabah in a famously brief union), he battled brain cancer in his final years, divorcing his last wife to "die free" and passing away at age 53 after collapsing on set during his last incomplete film.
