A member of the Democratic Party, she is known for being one of the first two Muslim women to serve in the U.S. Congress, alongside Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. Tlaib is also a member of "The Squad," a group of progressive congresswomen of color. She is noted for her advocacy for progressive policies and her vocal criticism of former President Donald Trump's administration.
