1. Luqman (-1100 - 1769)

With an HPI of 69.33, Luqman is the most famous Sudanese Writer.  His biography has been translated into 32 different languages on wikipedia.

Luqman (Arabic: لقمان, romanized: Luqmān; also known as Luqman the Wise or Luqman al-Hakim) was a wise man after whom Surah Luqman, the 31st sura (chapter) of the Quran, was named. According to Ibn Kathir, he is believed to have been from Nubia, Sudan or Ethiopia.There are many stories about Luqman in Persian, Arabic and Turkish literature. The primary historical sources attributed to him are Tafsir ibn Kathir and Stories of the Prophets by Ibn Kathir. By the Middle Ages, many of the ancient fables traditionally associated with Aesop in Europe became associated in Arabic culture with Luqman. Juan Cole states that the narrative of Luqman is based on Alcmaeon of Croton: "Qur’ān 31:12 might best be translated, “We bestowed philosophy [al-ḥikma = φιλοσοφία] on Alcmaeon: ‘Give thanks to God’.”

2. Tayeb Salih (1929 - 2009)

With an HPI of 54.02, Tayeb Salih is the 2nd most famous Sudanese Writer.  His biography has been translated into 27 different languages.

Tayeb Salih (Arabic: الطيب صالح, romanized: aṭ-Ṭayyib Ṣāliḥ; 12 July 1929 – 18 February 2009) was a Sudanese writer, cultural journalist for the BBC Arabic programme as well as for Arabic journals, and a staff member of UNESCO. He is best known for his novel Season of Migration to the North, considered to be one of the most important novels in Arabic literature. His novels and short stories have been translated into English and more than a dozen other languages.
