Nour El-Sherif was a legendary Egyptian actor most famously known as one of the greatest stars of Arab cinema's Golden Age and beyond, starring in over 170 films and dozens of TV series with six entries in the Top 100 Egyptian films list—including acclaimed roles in The Palace of Desire (1967, his breakthrough), Karnak Café (1975), An Egyptian Story (1982), Destiny (1997), and The Yacoubian Building (2006)—where his versatility shone in dramatic, social, historical, and romantic parts that often tackled societal issues. He became an enduring icon of Ramadan television through powerful performances in historical-religious dramas like portraying the just Caliph in Omar bin Abdul Aziz, blending solemnity and humanity to captivate millions across the Arab world. Surprisingly, despite a prolific career spanning nearly 50 years and founding his own production company with ex-wife actress Poussi (with whom he had two daughters in the industry), he switched from a promising soccer career with Zamalek Club to acting, battled lung cancer in his final years, and reconciled with Poussi shortly before his death at age 69.
