Peter II was king of Portugal from 1357 to 1367. He was the son of Peter I of Portugal and his wife, Constance of Castile. He was a child when he came to the throne, and a regency council was set up to rule in his name. The council was led by Peter's uncle, Afonso of Barcelos, and became known as the "Council of the Realm." The country was at war with Castile for the entire duration of Peter's reign.
