Notable Works

The Forest
Fiction, Historical fiction, Domestic fiction
From the mysterious killing of King William Rufus, treachery and witchcraft, smuggling and poaching run through this epic tale of well-born ladies, lowly woodsmen, sailors, merchants and Cistercian monks. The feuds, wars, loyalties and passions of generations reach their climax in a crime that shatters the decorous society of Jane Austen’s Bath. From the cruel forest laws of the Normans to the danger of the Spanish Armada, from the free-roaming herds of ponies and wild deer to the mighty oaks which gave Nelson his navy, Rutherfurd has captured the essence of this ancient place. Forest and sea: there is no more perfect English heartland.
The Rebels of Ireland
History, Fiction, Romans, nouvelles
A sweep through the past 4 centuries of Irish history, woven around a family saga. Very readable and credible accounts of the historical events, although some of the fictional characters are a bit far fetched at the end of the tale, to round up the whole thing. It answers a lot of questions about the complexity of "THE IRISH QUESTION", and you can see modern day parallels to recent post-colonial efforts by other countries. A long book but a good read.
London
Fiction, History, Historical fiction
Sarum
Fiction, History, Salisbury, Région de (Angleterre)
Sarum is an epic story that tells the history of the Salisbury region in particular and England in general from the end of the Ice Age through the current period. It traces the story of several interconnected local families over the centuries as their fortunes rise and fall with the vagaries of time. It is also an excellent overview of the major historical events and eras of England.
