Charles IV de Valois, duc d'Alençon (1489 – 11 April 1525) was a French prince du sang, military commander, governor and courtier during the reigns of Louis XII and François I (otherwise known as Francis I). Born into the house of Valois-Alençon, Charles (known by his title of Alençon) was a close relation of the royal family, and after the ascent of François I in 1515, he would become the 'second person of the kingdom', and would be the heir apparent until the birth of the king's first son in 1518. He undertook his early military service in the later campaigns of Louis XII. He fought at the recapture of Genoa in 1507, and the decisive defeat of the Venetians at Agnadello in 1509.
