Roland Collombin was a two-time World Cup downhill champion who won the silver medal in the downhill at the 1972 Winter Olympics and took the season titles in 1973 and 1974. In January 1974 he won four consecutive downhills including the Lauberhorn at Wengen and the Hahnenkamm at Kitzbühel where he set a record time. The jump at Val-d'Isère where he fell in 1974 and 1975 has been called "Bosse à Collombin" since that time.
