Chateaubriand founded and directed the Diários Associados conglomerate of 34 newspapers, 36 radio stations, 18 television stations, O Cruzeiro, A Cigarra and other publications while serving as Ambassador of Brazil to the United Kingdom from 1957 to 1961. He became Professor of Roman Law at the Law Faculty of Recife after a December 8, 1915 telegram from President Venceslau Brás settled clashes with state politicos. He occupied the 37th chair of the Brazilian Academy of Letters from 1954 until his death in 1968.
