Andrzej Zbigniew Lepper (Polish pronunciation: [ˈandʐɛj ˈzbiɡɲɛf ˈlɛppɛr] ; 13 June 1954 – 5 August 2011) was a Polish politician, farmer, trade union leader and former boxer who founded and led the Agricultural Trade Union "Self-Defence" and its successor, the Self-Defence of the Republic of Poland political party. He served as both the Deputy Prime Minister of Poland and Minister of Agriculture twice throughout 2006 and 2007, and was the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm from 2005 to 2006. Known for his populist rhetoric and aggressive farmers' protests, Lepper was considered to be on the far-left economically, compared to left-wing figures such as José Bové, Hugo Chávez, Evo Morales, and Juan Perón. However, Lepper and his party employed a conservative and traditionalist Catholic-influenced social policy and allied his party with the League of Polish Families as part of the government coalition.
