Mark Andrew Spitz (Modesto, 10 febbraio 1950) è un ex nuotatore statunitense. Alle Olimpiadi di Monaco di Baviera del 1972 vinse sette medaglie d'oro, primato che conservò per 36 anni, prima che Michael Phelps trionfasse otto volte alle Olimpiadi del 2008 a Pechino. Spitz stabilì nuovi record mondiali in tutte le sette gare alle quali partecipò in quell'anno, impresa mai più riuscita in seguito a nessun nuotatore (Michael Phelps nel 2008 a Pechino stabilirà sette record mondiali su otto gare, nei 100 farfalla otterrà solo il record olimpico). Comprese quelle vinte nelle staffette a Città del Messico alle Olimpiadi del 1968, Spitz vinse complessivamente 9 medaglie d'oro, più un argento e un bronzo, vinse inoltre 5 ori ai Giochi panamericani, 31 titoli dell'Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), e 8 titoli NCAA.
