Kipelov was the vocalist and founding member of Aria who composed three songs for its first four albums and has led the band Kipelov since 2002. After the 1994 Germany tour his relations with Holstinin and Dubinin became tense leading to his firing from Aria though he returned following Moroz Records' threat to sue for breach of contract. He performed at festivals celebrating Russia's annexation of Crimea and in July 2022 at a hospital for Rosgvardiya servicemen wounded in Ukraine prompting sanctions imposed on him by Ukraine in January 2023.
