Matteo Rizzo is most famous as an Italian men's singles figure skater who has competed in three Winter Olympics—PyeongChang 2018, Beijing 2022, and Milano Cortina 2026—where he helped Italy secure its first-ever medal (bronze) in the team event at the 2026 home Olympics by delivering a season-best free skate score of 179.62, earning widespread acclaim for his emotional performance and celebratory knee-slide into his teammates. A four-time European Championship medalist (with silvers in 2023 and 2026, bronzes in 2019 and 2024), he is also a two-time Italian national champion (2018 and 2023), a four-time Grand Prix bronze medalist, the 2019 Winter Universiade champion, and the first Italian man to medal at the World Junior Championships (bronze in 2018). Surprisingly, despite overcoming a serious injury that required surgery and threatened his participation in the 2026 Games, Rizzo not only competed but achieved a personal best in the team event free skate to contribute to Italy's historic home-soil podium, all while balancing his elite skating career with his role as a police officer in the Fiamme Azzurre sports group.
