Amber Glenn is most famously known as the American figure skater who, entering the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics as a top medal contender and the highest-rated U.S. woman internationally, suffered heartbreaking Olympic disappointment in the women's singles short program on February 17, 2026—popping her planned triple loop into a double (an "invalid element" under strict rules that awarded zero points), dropping her to 13th place with a score of 67.39 despite a strong opening triple Axel, effectively ending her individual medal hopes ahead of the free skate. A three-time consecutive U.S. national champion (2024–2026, the first since Michelle Kwan in 2003–2005), 2024–25 Grand Prix Final champion, and part of the gold-medal U.S. team event squad at these Games, she is also notable as the first openly queer woman to represent the U.S. in Olympic singles figure skating and one of the few women to consistently land the triple Axel in competition. Surprisingly, despite overcoming past depression, mental health challenges (advocating through her "Believe and Breathe" initiative), and being the oldest U.S. women's singles Olympian in nearly a century at age 26, her emotional tears post-short program highlighted the cruel precision of figure skating scoring, where a minor bailout—rather than a fall—devastated what could have been a breakthrough performance.
