To the south the region borders Kyrgyzstan and nearly borders Uzbekistan in the southwest. Jambyl also borders three other provinces of Kazakhstan: Karaganda Region, Turkistan Region, and Almaty Region. The total area is 144,200 square kilometres (55,700 sq mi).
