Irvin Kershner (born Isadore Kershner; April 29, 1923 – November 27, 2010) was an American film and television director, actor, and a film lecturer at the University of Southern California.He began his career as a documentarian, before becoming known as a director of offbeat, humanistic dramas and comedies. He later transitioned to directing high-budget blockbusters such as the Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back (1980), the James Bond film Never Say Never Again (1983), and the science-fiction action film sequel RoboCop 2 (1990).
