Hannes Wader is a German singer-songwriter ("Liedermacher") known for his folk songs and political music, including "Heute hier, morgen dort" and "Es ist an der Zeit," and for being an important figure in German leftist circles since the 1970s. He was a member of the German Communist Party from 1977 to 1991 and received the Echo Pop Honorary Award for his life's work in 2013. Wader's work, which includes socially critical and poetic songs, as well as traditional German folk songs, made him one of the most prominent members of a new German singer-songwriter scene and contributed to making Low German socially acceptable in new circles.
