1. Bhanubhakta Acharya (1814 - 1868)

With an HPI of 57.18, Bhanubhakta Acharya is the most famous Nepalese Writer.  His biography has been translated into 25 different languages on wikipedia.

Bhanubhakta Acharya (Nepali: भानुभक्त आचार्य) (1814—1868 CE) (1871—1925 BS) was a Nepali writer, poet, and translator. He is widely regarded as the oldest poet in the Nepali language, for which he was conferred with the title of "Aadikabi": literally, "the first poet". He is best known for translating the epic Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali for the first time. Initially, his translation of the Ramayana was popular in oral form. It was later compiled and published by Motirām Bhatta in the late 19th century as Bhanubhakta Ramayana

2. Suman Pokhrel (b. 1967)

With an HPI of 54.44, Suman Pokhrel is the 2nd most famous Nepalese Writer.  His biography has been translated into 47 different languages.

Suman Pokhrel (Nepali: सुमन पोखरेल; born 21 September 1967) is a Nepali poet, lyricist, playwright, translator and artist. Universities in Nepal and India have included his poetry in their syllabi. Pokhrel is the only writer to have received the SAARC Literary Award twice. He received this award in 2013 and 2015. He is recipient of several other national and international literary awards including Shaluk International Literature Award and Asia's Inspiring Poet Award.

3. Laxmi Prasad Devkota (1909 - 1959)

With an HPI of 53.19, Laxmi Prasad Devkota is the 3rd most famous Nepalese Writer.  His biography has been translated into 26 different languages.

Laxmi Prasad Devkota (Nepali: लक्ष्मीप्रसाद देवकोटा) (1909-1959) was a Nepalese poet, playwright, novelist, and politician. Honored with the title of Mahakabi (Nepali: महाकवि, lit. 'Greatest poet') in Nepali literature, he was known as a poet with a golden heart, and is considered one of the most famous literary figures in Nepal. Some of his popular works include the best-selling Muna Madan, along with Sulochana, Kunjini, Bhikhari, and Shakuntala.

4. Sanu Sharma (b. )

With an HPI of 35.84, Sanu Sharma is the 4th most famous Nepalese Writer.  Her biography has been translated into 20 different languages.

Sanu Sharma (Nepali: सानु शर्मा) is a Nepali novelist, short story writer, poet, and lyricist. She has authored several novels and short story collections, with her works also available in audio format. Her short stories, poetry, and serialized novels have appeared in esteemed literary magazines and journals. Many of her lyrics have been composed into songs and released by various artists. Some of her works have been translated into languages such as English, Hindi, and Portuguese, appearing in publications across multiple countries. In 2018, Sharma’s short story collection Ekadeshmaa was shortlisted for the prestigious Madan Puraskar award among seven other works. In 2024, her ninth book, Arko Deshma — her second short story collection — was shortlisted for both the Padmashree Award and the Kavidanda Literary Award.
